Influence of banks in Panama on the performance of its GDP in the period 2015-2019

The Panamanian economy has shown over the years a sector that generates an important influence on results, the financial sector. This paper focused on the influence that the financial industry, through the bank, represented at the “GDP” of Panamá, all this based on the results that the bank threw in financial intermediation, meaning, and the results that the bank obtained from that savings and loan cycle. Originally for the construction of the text, background information was consulted based on statistics, provided by official sources like, the bank superintendence of Panamá and the National Institute of Statistics and Census, as no other research was found that addressed the issue in a timely manner. These sources allowed the development of graphic tools that helped to develop more clearly the relationship between Panama's banks and GDP results. The methodological elements used were mixed with descriptive and comparative tools and the investigation of facts that seek to explain the movement that both the banking sector in Panama and the GDP of the nation in the period of time covered between 2015 and 2019, which comprises the same administration and is that of the president Juan Carlos Varela Rodriguez. As a final result it was possible to dimension the economic scope that it has had between the years 2015 and 2019 the Panama’s bank and the influence that its behavior has had on the positive or negative results of the GDP, besides understanding finally if the financial sector, is really an indispensable sector for the Panamanian economy.
La influencia de la banca en Panamá sobre el comportamiento de su PIB en el periodo 2015-2019

La economía panameña ha mostrado a lo largo de los años un sector que genera una influencia importante en materia de resultados, el sector financiero. El presente trabajo tuvo como enfoque la influencia que el sector financiero, por medio de la banca, representó en el PIB de Panamá, todo esto tomando como base los resultados que la banca arrojó en materia de intermediación financiera, es decir, los resultados que la banca obtuvo de ese ciclo de ahorradores y prestamistas. Inicialmente para la construcción del texto, se consultaron antecedentes basados en estadísticas, proporcionados de fuentes oficiales como la Superintendencia de Bancos de Panamá y el Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Censo (INEC), ya que no se encontraron otras investigaciones que abordarán el tema puntualmente. Estas fuentes permitieron la elaboración de herramientas gráficas que ayudaron a desarrollar de manera más clara la relación que guarda la banca en Panamá con los resultados en materia de PIB. Los elementos metodológicos utilizados fueron mixtos con herramientas descriptivas, comparativas y la investigación de hechos que buscan explicar el movimiento que ha tenido tanto la banca en Panamá como el PIB de la nación en el periodo de tiempo comprendido del año 2015 al año 2019, el cual comprende una misma administración y es la del presidente Juan Carlos Varela Rodríguez. Como resultado final se logró dimensionar el alcance económico que ha tenido entre los años 2015 al 2019 la banca en Panamá y la influencia que el comportamiento de ésta ha tenido en los resultados positivos o negativos en materia de PIB, además de comprender finalmente si el sector financiero, realmente es un sector indispensable para la economía panameña.
